Mrs. Mower invited our elementary students to participate in an annual pumpkin project, where students were to decorate a paper pumpkin to represent a favorite book or movie character. This project was tied into the guidance lessons on Zones of Regulation, as our young artists thought about what zone their character might be in.
For example:
BLUE zone: sad, sick, tired, bored
GREEN zone: happy, calm, ready to learn, proud of myself
YELLOW zone: worried, frustrated, silly, annoyed
RED zone: mad, scared, out of control, yelling
While students are learning about the Zones of Regulation, they are also learning strategies and tools on how to address their feelings and needs. Student pumpkins are on display, lining the walls near the lobby. This pumpkin project was a fun way to think about regulating emotions while getting creative with a holiday theme!
This year, Mrs. Mower invited teachers and other school staff to get in on the action! School staff were invited to create their own pumpkin, based on a book or movie character. These pumpkins were on display in the lobby for all to enjoy. Students were able to vote on their favorite staff pumpkin.
Staff Pumpkin winners are --
1st Place: Mrs. Larrivee; Gru & Minions
2nd Place: Mrs. Willey; Pig the Pug
3rd Place: Mrs. Shutts, assisted by her son Jamie; BB-8
Congratulations to the winners! And GREAT JOB to all the students who participated in decorating pumpkin characters!
